Dear beloved children,

From today onwards, I will post some challenging problems online for you to try at home. You need not copy down the question but just write down the question number. You may ask your parents if you do not know how to do or you may ask me when school term starts.

Challenging Questions

1. John bought some stickers. He gave 3 stickers to Samy and bought another 4. If he had 10 stickers after this, how many stickers did he have at first?

2. One badminton racket costs $6. One shuttlecock costs $2. Bala bought 2 badminton rackets and 4 shuttlecocks. How much did he pay in total?

3. A bowl and 4 spoons cost $7. The bowl costs $3. How much does each spoon cost?

P2 Newspapers CIP

Dear beloved children,

First of all, a big thank you to all P2 pupils, their supportive parents and energetic P2 teachers for the big support for our P2 Newspapers CIP @ Term 2.

Mass of papers collected for all 9 classes: about 500kg

Amount collected from recycling the newspaper: $ 100 (Mr Lau - Karang Guni man topped-up the $75 "earned " by the pupils with his own $25 to make it $100)

All these are made possible with all of your efforts! ;)

3 cheers to all the P2 pupils and form teachers.

Big thanks to Mr Lu too for helping to bundle newspapers for 2B.

Fun in Math-Magic Pri 2

Dear beloved children,

For those who have enrolled in Fun in Math-Magic courses, it will be held in the school premises during the June holidays.

The dates for the course: 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th June 2008. (Monday to Friday)
Time: 9am to 12 noon
Venue: East Spring Primary School (classrooms)

Do assemble in the hall at 8.45am for the 5 days. Wear your school uniform or school PE attire and bring along your stationery.

I am sure you will enjoy yourself during the course and gain interest and confidence in handling Mathematics!

P2 CIP Newspaper Challenge

Dear beloved children,

The collection of newspapers has come to an end. Thank you for activie participation. Heartfelt thanks to all the parents who helped to pack the newspapers and carried them to school despite the weight.

Thanks to the children who helped me to stack the newspapers, carried the newspapers down to the canteen. Also many thanks to Mr Lu for helping to bundle the newspapers together! The class and I really appreciated the help that you have rendered.

I hope that through this activity, you learn that things could be recycled. You can help to do this at home too, simply by sorting the things into paper, cans and bottles and bringing them to the recycling bins near your home.

By the way, the money made from selling the newspapers to the Karang Guni man will be donated to a charitable organisation! Hence, all of you have done a good deed! Keep it up!

Having fun

Dear brainy children,

I hope you do have fun at the booths set up near the canteen today! Below are some photographs of our friends who were "caught" having fun either playing sudoku or folding paper hearts!

Remember that though you use the signatures on the CD-Roam card in exchange for a chance to play but you should not help your friends or anyone just because of signatures. You should be willingly helping your friend out because you have a big heart. Good deeds will be rewarded for one day. You will find yourself happier when you help people without expecting any things in return.

Last day of Term 2

Dear highly favoured children,

PLease note the school hours for this coming Friday, 23rd May 2008. Sch hours will be from 7.30am to 10.30am. You have to be in school by 7.10am for your daily silent reading. Friendship

Dear beloved pupils,

Do you still remember the book that I read to you on Tuesday? It is titled 'Friendship'.

I hope you will understand what is friendship now. Friendship is all about sharing, helping, giving, sacrificing, cheering him/her up and also keeping him/her in your mind.

Friendship can be formed with all kinds of people - family, teachers, neighbours. A friend can be any age.

Value: Gratefulness

Dear beloved children,

I am going to share with you a value to live by today.

Yeah, the value that I am going to talk about is Gratefulness.

What is gratefulness?

Gratefulness is how you feel when your mum cooked you your favourite dish.
Gratefulness is when your dad found your lost toy or when your sibling is there to help you when you fall.
You can be grateful to a friend who shares with you his/her brand new toy or who always keeps your secrets.
You can be grateful for your teacher who puts in the right values in your mind.
You can be grateful for having a safe and stable country.
You can be grateful for both the big things and small things in life.
But sometimes we can forget how grateful we are for things such as a healthy body or a family that loves us so dearly.
If you look carefully, there is something to be grateful for every day.
Now, think.

How did you feel when you saw your results?Were you happy or sad when you saw the results?
Did you make many careless mistakes?

But do not cry over spilled milk. Its all over. Now your job is to focus on the future. Think aout how can you improve your grades?

What is the difference between a hare and a rabbit?

Dear beloved pupils,

Do you have any idea what is the difference between a hare and a rabbit?

Let me share with all of you:


Rabbits and hares may look slightly alike, but they are two different species. Hares are usually larger than rabbits, and they have longer ears and longer hind legs.

It is easy to tell the difference between a rabbit and a hare from the moment they are born. Rabbits are born blind and hairless while baby hares are born with fur and open eyes. Hares can hop around and leave the nest, but rabbits depend on their mothers for survival.

Another thing that sets these animals apart is their homes. In the wild, rabbits live in underground burrows while hares usually live above ground and use bushes and tree bases for protection.

Cyclone Nargis (Myanmar)

Did you know that a cyclone hit Myanmar on 3rd May 2008? The May 3 disaster is the worst to hit South-East Asia since the 2004 tsunami which killed 220 000 people.


Below are some fast facts about Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar:
- a category storm with 3.5m waves 190km per hour winds
-death toll at 23 000 with 42 000 people missing
-more than one million people were made homeless

Being a filial son/daughter meant complete obedience to one's parents during their lifetime and as they grew older, taking the best possible care of them.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Colouring Competition

Dear beloved pupils,

Based on a bestselling novel: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Singapore Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, would like to bring the DNA of the movie to children with a Colouring Contest. This competition will have 2 categories - Lower (Pri 1 - Pri 3) and Upper Primary(Pri 4), with attractive prizes including a movie screening for the whole class and book vouchers to be won for each category!

The dateline for collection of the Colouring papers is 8May(Thursday).

Attractive prizes can be won E.g. For the first prize, if any pupil from the class wins the colouring contest, the pupils from the whole class can win a pair of movie tickets each! Book vouchers can also be won.

Mathematics terms

Dear highly favoured children,

Do take note of the following terms:

1) product = multiply = x

2) sum = total = add = +

3) difference = subtract = take away = -

4) ascending = smallest to biggest

5) descending = biggest to smallest

6) 1 ten = 10 ones

7) 1 hundred = 100 ones

8) least value = smallest

- Find the number of tens in 450.

Solution: 450 divides 10 = 45

- Find the number of hundreds in 2700

Solution: 2700 divides 100 = 27
